You're not alone. Most of the SMEs we talk to fall into one of two camps: they assume their IT is "probably fine" because nothing has gone wrong yet, or they know something needs attention but don't know where to start. Cyber Essentials, the UK Government-backed certification scheme, gives a clear answer, but working through the full certification process can feel like a big first step when you don't even know your starting point.
That's why we built a free, no-obligation Cyber Essentials self-assessment tool.
What it actually checks
The assessment walks through the same five control areas that Cyber Essentials certification is built around:
- Firewalls - is your network boundary properly configured and maintained?
- Secure configuration - are your devices and software set up securely, not left on default settings?
- Security update management - are your systems patched promptly when updates are released?
- User access control - do people only have access to what they actually need?
- Malware protection - is there proper protection in place across your devices?
You'll be asked a set of plain-English yes/partial/no questions across each area. No jargon, no assumption that you're a technical expert, just a straightforward check against the same standard assessors use.
Two ways to do it
We built two versions, depending on how much time you've got:
- Quick check - 15 questions, about 3 minutes, gives you a solid first read on where you stand
- In-depth - 75 questions, roughly 15 minutes, gives a much more detailed picture across every control area, useful if you're seriously considering going for certification
Either way, at the end you'll get an instant score, a breakdown by control area, and a downloadable PDF report you can keep, share with a colleague, or bring to a conversation with an IT provider (us or otherwise).
Why we're offering this for free
Because most business owners can't fix what they can't see. Whether or not you ever work with Evoogic, having a clear, honest picture of your current security posture is worth having. If gaps show up, that's useful information either way, whether you tackle them yourselves or want a hand.
Try it now
It takes less time than making a coffee.
If you'd rather talk it through with a real person first, get in touch or book a free IT & security review and we'll walk through it with you.
