Case Study: Fixing Reactive IT for a Milton Keynes Professional Services Firm

A Milton Keynes-based professional services firm was losing hours a week to IT firefighting. Here's what changed after switching to Evoogic Ltd.

The business

A professional services firm based in Central Milton Keynes, with around [15–20] staff across two office floors, relying entirely on a single freelance IT contractor for support.

Before Evoogic

  • IT issues were handled reactively — the contractor was contacted only once something had already broken
  • No formal monitoring in place, so failing hardware wasn't caught until it caused downtime
  • Backups were running, but had never been tested and were not stored off-site
  • No Cyber Essentials certification, despite it being requested by a growing number of the firm's own clients during procurement
  • The contractor was often unavailable for days at a time, leaving the office without support

What we did

- Brought day-to-day support under our Managed IT Services plan, with 24/7 monitoring across servers and endpoints

- Rebuilt the backup strategy with automated, off-site Cloud Backup and a quarterly restore test

- Carried out a full Cyber Essentials readiness assessment, remediated the gaps found, and completed certification

- Set up a proper Service Desk with defined response times, replacing the previous ad-hoc phone-call arrangement

After Evoogic

  • IT issues are now typically resolved same-day, with most caught by monitoring before staff notice anything
  • Cyber Essentials certification achieved, removing a recurring blocker in the firm's own client procurement conversations
  • Backups are tested quarterly as a matter of routine, not assumed to work
  • The firm now has a same-day, on-site engineer available from our Milton Keynes base whenever remote support isn't enough

The takeaway

This is a common pattern for growing Milton Keynes businesses that started with a single contractor: the arrangement works well at first, then quietly becomes a liability as the business and its clients' expectations grow past what one person can reliably support.
